Events & Activities

Wigmore and District Gardening Club

WDGC is an extremely friendly group of enthusiastic gardeners which meets throughout the year. We enjoy a varied programme of evening speakers and daytime car or coach trips and spend much time happily chatting and swapping gardening tips (and gossip).

All evening meetings take place in Wigmore Village Hall at 7.30 on the 3rd Thursday of each month.

Car & Coach trips depart from the Village Hall at the times shown on the programme which you can download here.

Just come along and join in for the odd meeting, or phone Joy Ardy on 01568 770023  or Cathy Jones on 770808 for more information.

Alternatively, you can contact the club by email at

CAMEO - Come And Meet Each Other

Feeling well is not just about being physically fit.  It’s also important that you feel well mentally.  Contact with family and friends plays a vital role in this, but what do you do when your family live away?  How do you enjoy the company of others if you’ve lost your spouse or partner?  How do you make new friends when you live alone?

It’s a well documented fact that staying active – mentally as well as physically – being with other people, learning new skills, passing on your skills and feeling valued has a positive impact on our health and wellbeing – particularly as we get older.

One of the ways to achieve this is to join a friendship group.

This group is a way to meet new friends over cake and a cuppa in a safe environment.  Everyone is welcome and we have a programme of gentle activities, speakers and opportunities to learn something new.  We can sometimes help with transport if there is a problem.

Why not come along and see if this is for you?  Bring a friend or come alone, we promise a warm and friendly welcome.

CAMEO is a friendly, totally informal, no rules, no booking, no membership needed club.

We welcome anyone who wishes to join us for an afternoon.

Events at 2pm at Wigmore Village Hall on the first Tuesday of each month, unless otherwise stated.

For trips out of the village, meet at Wigmore Village Hall for car shares.

For more details on any of these events please contact Margaret / Les Barclay, Bury Court Farmhouse 01568 770618

Tai Chi Classes

Tai Chi is a graceful and old martial art that combines gentle and relaxed movements with deep breathing and relaxation routines. Created in China in the Thirteenth Century this system is now practised all around the world because of the many benefits.

It has been proven to help increase mobility and balance, reduce stress and improve lower limb muscle strength, particularly in the over 60's.

Because this is a low impact and gentle exercise, Tai Chi is acceptable for  individuals of all ages and abilities. Tai Chi classes are highly unlikely to cause any muscle injuries or stress on the joints when practised correctly meaning it's vital to master the correct positions and movements right from the outset. A Tai Chi lesson should help to induce a positive and happy perspective by channelling creativity and energy which is thought to restore wellness and extend life by harmonising body and mind as one.

For the Tai Chi workouts all you'll require are comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that will not restrict movement, if it is possible you should dress in muted or plain colours as the emphasis ought to be on the routine, not your garments.

It's usually a wise move to get advice from your doctor before you sign up to any Tai Chi classes especially if you have an existing health problem or other health concerns. You might have to observe some safety precautions if you suffer from back pain, have severe osteoporosis, have recently recovered from an infection, have a hernia, are pregnant or get spells of dizziness.

However Tai Chi is basically a gentle exercise that is not likely to cause harm if undertaken the right way. The routines entail mostly flowing, easy movements which rarely stress the muscles or joints.

Our Wigmore classes are small, friendly and students learn at their own rate.

Classes are currently held on Mondays,
10.30 am to 12.30 pm (beginners 10.30 to 11.30 am) and Wednesday evenings 6:30 to 7:30.

It takes about eight weeks to feel the benefits and students can join at any time.

Classes cost £5.
